One week today and Winter Sun will open in Balconies 1 & 2. It is part of a series of exhibitions that have been proposed by external organisations which, because they explore some of the themes and critical thinking that GoMA is currently developing, we have been able to programme.

Winter Sun will open in Balconies 1 & 2 next Thursday 14 February at 2pm and then run until 25 March 2013.

Winter Sun FLYER

Winter Sun FLYER

Winter Sun is an exhibition of cyanotype prints and collages made by patients from the Mansionhouse Unit of the Victoria Infirmary. Cyanotypes are made using an alternative photography process which utilises UV lightto create cyan-blue photographs. This project was specially created for Art in Hospital by Lorna Macintyre, an artist who makes extensive use of photographic techniques in her own practice.

Art is about values, beliefs, identity, expression and communication and as such should be the fundamental right of every individual regardless of whether they are in hospital or not.

Art in Hospital is a registered charity which enables people to develop their own creativity through participation in a vital visual art programme in hospitals, care homes and the community, creating strong links between medicine, treatment, care and artistic practice to improve health and well-being. In 2013, Art in Hospital provides a programme in 10 different health settings facilitated by a team of 18 artists, including: care for older people, stroke rehabilitation, acute medicine, mental health and palliative care. This programme is supported by research and evaluation, an exhibition programme, and the development of artistic practice in a health context.

Art in Hospital would like to thank GoMA for their kind support in hosting this exhibition and Blueprint 2013 for including the exhibition in their programme.

Winter Sun’ is an Art in Hospital exhibition supported by Creative Scotland, The Baring Foundation, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde and Glasgow Life
